AgentLens Help

How-to guide and FAQ for the AgentLens Shopify app

AgentLens shows you how AI shopping agents such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI shopping features find, understand, and buy from your store, then helps you fix what they get wrong. Nothing changes in your store unless you approve it.

Getting started

1. Run your first audit. Open Optimizations and click Run audit. The audit takes about 20 seconds. The storefront field defaults to your own store; you can enter any Shopify storefront, including a competitor's, to compare.

2. Read the score. You get a 0 to 100 agent-readiness score made up of four areas: Discovery (can agents find and read your store), Shopper answers (can they answer real product questions from your catalog), Cart & checkout (can they add to cart and reach checkout), and Technical (structured data, sitemap, robots rules).

3. Work through the findings. Each finding is a real probe of your storefront. Click one to see the exact agent transcript, why it passed or failed, and the recommended fix.

The shopper questions AgentLens tests with are generated from your own catalog. There is nothing to configure. You can regenerate them in Settings after a big change to your product range.

Fixing store-level findings

Some findings are about store setup rather than content, for example a missing agents.md discovery file, robots rules that block AI crawlers, missing product structured data, or catalog search that is not exposed to agents. These show a guided fix with the exact steps to take in your Shopify admin or theme.

Which endpoint AgentLens tests. Shopify storefronts expose their catalog, cart and checkout to AI agents through the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP): a discovery file at /.well-known/ucp and an MCP endpoint at /api/ucp/mcp. The audit reads the discovery file, lists the tools the endpoint offers, runs your shopper questions through its search_catalog tool and creates a throwaway cart with create_cart, exactly as an agent would. The older /api/mcp endpoint now only answers policy and FAQ questions, which the audit still uses for the returns and shipping checks.

"Catalog search isn't enabled for AI agents." This banner means your storefront's UCP endpoint does not expose search_catalog, so every shopper question fails for one reason. Shopify serves the endpoint on eligible stores with agentic storefronts active: in your Shopify admin open Sales channels → Agentic, accept the Agentic Storefronts terms if prompted, and make sure the store is not password-protected or behind a firewall that blocks /.well-known/ucp and /api/ucp/mcp. Then run the audit again. Optimizing products will not change these results until search is on.

Search engine SEO

Besides the agent path, every audit runs a set of classic search-engine checks and shows them as a separate Search engine SEO score on the Overview and Optimizations pages. It is deliberately not part of the agent-readiness score: "how do AI agents see this store?" and "how do Google and Bing see it?" are different questions, and folding one into the other would blur both.

The checks look at what a search crawler sees on your homepage and on a product page: the page title and meta description and whether they fit the lengths results display; whether pages are indexable (no noindex) and declare a canonical URL; that there is exactly one H1; Open Graph tags for shared links; whether robots.txt lets Googlebot and Bingbot in and declares your sitemap; the homepage response time; and the mobile viewport tag.

Each finding comes with a guided fix that names the exact Shopify admin screen or theme file. Product titles and meta descriptions are content, so AgentLens can draft them for you through Product/Page Optimization like any other product copy. Audits run before this section existed simply show no SEO score.

Per item: the Products & pages screen lists every product and info page with two verdicts. AI SEO checks the item's own description length, tags and Product schema, and whether your store's catalog search actually returns the product when an agent asks for it by name. Search SEO checks that page's title, meta description, indexability, canonical URL, headings, Open Graph tags and image alt text. Each verdict lists the concrete issues; Optimize takes you to the picker. Checks run in the background when you open the screen and on Re-check all. On a password-protected store the pages read as not reachable, because a crawler only sees the password page.

Optimizing products and pages

1. Open Product/Page Optimization and click Choose products & pages. Pick the items you want improved. Items that failed a shopper question are suggested first.

2. Drafts generate in the background. You can leave the page; large batches keep running and resume after a restart.

3. Open a draft to see the current content and the proposed rewrite side by side, with the reasoning and the shopper question it addresses.

4. Click Approve & apply and the change publishes to your store right away. Dismiss discards a draft. Revert to original restores the previous content at any time.

If you or someone on your team later edits an optimized product by hand, AgentLens marks it as changed and frees up its slot so you can optimize it again.

Weekly reports and scheduled audits

AgentLens re-audits your storefront on a schedule at 8:00 AM in your store's time zone: every Monday for weekly reports, or every morning if you choose daily on a paid plan. The Weekly report page shows the next run and a preview of the digest.

Add one or more recipient email addresses to receive the digest after each scheduled audit. Email digests are included on Growth and above; the Free plan gets the in-app weekly audit. Send now emails the current digest immediately on every plan.

Plans and billing

All charges go through Shopify Billing and appear on your Shopify invoice.

Free ($0): weekly audit and score, guided fixes, optimize up to 3 products and pages.

Growth ($39/month): scheduled audits and email digests, AI-drafted rewrites, up to 50 products and pages.

Pro ($99/month): everything in Growth plus the bulk optimizer, up to 1,000 products and pages.

Enterprise ($499/month): unlimited products and pages, 4,000 optimizations per month included, then $0.20 each, capped at $5,000 per month.

Upgrade or downgrade any time from the Plans page. Shopify shows an approval screen before any charge starts. Downgrading to Free keeps your existing optimizations in place.

Languages

AgentLens is available in English, German, French, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Italian and Spanish. By default it follows the language your Shopify admin runs in, so most merchants never have to choose.

To pick a language yourself, open Settings and use the Language setting: choose a language to use it regardless of your admin language, or Follow my Shopify admin to go back to the default. The choice applies to every screen and to the weekly report email. Product names, SKUs and anything you typed are never translated.

FAQ

Does AgentLens change my store on its own?
No. Audits are read-only. Content changes happen only when you approve a draft, and every applied change can be reverted.

What data does the app access?
Product titles, descriptions, tags, and online-store page content, plus the public storefront it audits. It never reads customer records, orders, or checkout data.

Can I audit a competitor?
Yes. Enter any Shopify storefront domain. The audit only uses what that storefront publicly exposes to agents.

Why did my score change when I changed nothing?
Every audit probes your live storefront. Theme updates, app changes, inventory levels, and policy edits all affect what an agent can find and answer.

Where do the shopper questions come from?
They are generated from a sample of your catalog so they match what real shoppers would ask about your products. Regenerate them from Settings whenever your range changes.

How do I cancel?
Downgrade to Free on the Plans page, or uninstall the app. Uninstalling cancels the subscription and deletes all data AgentLens holds for your store.
